It’s time for the FINAL gym series post! Following last week’s pre-workout list is this week’s what to do AFTER a workout. Hint, it’s not run from the gym screaming!
1. Cool down /stretch – you should be doing this immediately after your workout– cool down properly. If you do, you’re less likely to be wicked sore the next day and you decrease your risk of injuring yourself.
2. Hydrate! This is a big thing to do after you work out. you pushed your body hard (hopefully) and you’re going to need some water or a sports drink depending on just how hard you went through replace everything.
3. Eat and nourish your body – within 30 minutes of working out you should be eating something or drinking rich in protein as well as other nutrients to help feed your muscles. Lara bars are really good, so are other granola bars. Just be wary of some of the Clif bars as a lot of the “protein power workout bars” are actually just glorified candy. Read the labels and find out just how much sugar is actually in them before you grab one. 🙂
4. Shower – after you cool down, eat, and drink something, the next thing on your list should be to take a shower and get rid of all that sweat and grime that you built up during the workout. By doing this, you decrease the chances of breaking out because you removing that layer of film (ew). It also helps to get rid the funk if you have to go back to work!
